Hommage à Marcel Barbero – Georges Rebuffel – INFLOVAR – 05 mai 2020

J’ai eu le plaisir de rencontrer Marcel Barbero, de l’écouter et de l’accompagner sur le terrain, (où il nous montra à Thomas Hermans (secrétaire du groupe informel « Collectif pour la Plaine des Maures »), moi et qq autres, une station d’Ophioglossum azoricum,entre autres Orchis lactea et Serapias neglecta, déjà 3 espèces protégées sur l’emplacement même où étaient projetés les bâtiments du projet Michelin lorsque je militais au sein du « Collectif pour la Plaine des Maures » Contre le projet Michelin de circuit d’essais pneumatiques.
Il a animé une réunion publique de sensibilisation à la richesse de la plaine, alors que j’y accompagnais André Lavagne, qui participa au discours militant d’opposition.
M. Barbero a écrit un texte significatif « Plaidoyer scientifique pour la Plaine des Maures », fourni au collectif au 08 sept 1992, …à la suite du texte d’information de 1990  « Éléments d’information sur les projets d’aménagement envisagés dans la plaine des Maures », signé de 4 biologistes (Louis Bigot ; entomologiste ; Marc Cheylan, zoologiste(herpétologue)spécialiste TH, André Lavagne, botaniste ; Philippe Orsini, Mammalogiste , Ornithologue, adj. Dir. MHNToulon) ;
Comme me le rappelle Henri Michaud, Marcel Barbero a reçu des menaces de mort suite à son engagement militant contre le projet Michelin (nombreux « nous » donnaient perdants…aujourd’hui, il existe une RNN !)
Engagé, militant, passionné et chercheur avide de connaissance, Marcel Barbero a étudié en détail les mares et ruisseaux temporaires, dans les années soixante.

Avant sa thèse sur les « …végétations orophiles, alpines et mésogéennes des Alpes maritimes et ligures » en 1972, il avait effectué son DES (devenu DUS plus tard) : Etude Ecologique et phytosociologique de l’Isoetion en Provence [1314]
Phytosociologue et Cartographe, il a réalisé les cartes de la végétation de Viève-Cuneo (avec Bono, Mondino, Ozenda) et de Nice  avec (P. Ozenda), au 1/100000 (DCE, 1973b),
La carte écologique de Cannes au 1/100000 (DCE, 1974), avec son fréquent complice Roger Loisel, toujours à l’UJF Grenoble, auprès du labo de P. Ozenda
Et aussi (entre autres…) celle de la « végétation potentielle des Alpes piémontaises au 1/400000 », avec Bono et Ozenda.
Plus récemment, Dans Ecologia mediterranea 29 (2003), la carte et notice de la carte de la végétation du Parc National du Mercantour au 1/100000.
Ses recherches, seul, ou avec ses « complices » Loisel, Quézel, Bono, Bonin, Charpin, Ozenda, Gruber, … sont multiples, des pelouses (écorchées, à brome, sommitales [Ventoux…], des Chênes rares [Cerris, Crenata] ou plus communs [« les chênaies vertes… »], des « …hêtraies des Alpes maritimes et ligures », des éléments laurifoliés…Des groupements relictuels de Carex rares à l’endémisme, sans oublier les zones humides…Ce résumé est chétif et insuffisant : rapportez vous aux bibliographies du « Var et sa flore… » et à celle de la « Flore des Alpes maritimes… ».
la botanique provençale et sud alpine doit énormément d’apports à Marcel Barbero.
Nous perdons un Maître, un éminent botaniste militant.
Je ne suis pas biographe et cette modeste évocation n’est que le témoignage de mon respect pour une personnalité forte de notre science aimable !
